All you need to know

Turkey is a fascinating country that bridges Western and Eastern cultures thanks to its geographic location on two separate continents. Turkey boasts a unique combination of Europe and Asian traits. Home of the Blue Mosque, Troy and the Golden Horn, Turkey is unlike any other place you’ve been before. Breathtaking beaches, architecture dating back to the Ottoman Empire, incredible cuisine and friendly people make Turkey a popular tourist destination.

CHI works with a trusted partner agency in Ankara, Turkey to find the best host families possible. Most placements are located in and around Ankara. Ankara is the bureaucratic center of Turkey, a large university town and home to many government workers and university students. As the national capital, Ankara is home to a large population of foreign diplomats and embassy staff, so it offers goods and services that might be more difficult to find in other Turkish cities. Ankara has a symbolic significance for the secular Turks. It is the place where a new era for the Turkish people started. It is a symbol for independence, development and Western values.

Turkey is a primarily Muslim country and is regarded as a safe tourist destination. The official language is Turkish. Many Turks dream of the opportunity to learn English from a native speaker to advance their education and careers. World Explorers is a great way to gain experience and build your resume teaching English in Turkey. Being in a central location in Turkey, Ankara is the hub of the Turkish rail network and can be reached easily from many cities. There are now high speed services to Istanbul and Konya. The new high speed train makes it possible to visit Istanbul in just 3 hours. We do not offer placements in Istanbul at this time.

What is the recommended age range for World Explorers traveling to this country?

Some of the overseas partner agencies we work with place restrictions on age. We recommend this destination for travelers ages 18-40. Some older candidates may be considered, but we cannot guarantee it.

Cost Calculator

We understand that keeping the World Explorers cost down is as important as the life-changing experience you will enjoy. Hence, we prepared a cost calculator which shows the cost of the program (excluding airfare) compared to the cost of a standard vacation. The prices are calculated according to the destination chosen, the arrival and departure dates, and the length of your stay.

The length of your stay is an especially important factor: the longer you stay abroad, the cheaper the cost per day becomes.

CHI is a non-profit organization, but we still have fixed costs that are necessary for running the program. Our overseas partners are actually for-profit, and we must take that into consideration as well. Our partners do the work to find and screen excellent host families that match your interests and needs!
