WHAT WILL I DO THERE?

World Explorers creates a safe and fun environment for you to teach English in Russia. CHI provides you with basic tutoring materials for casual English conversation lessons. Most Russians learn English in school and are eager for the opportunity to practice. That’s where you come in. You will be welcomed into your host family’s home and become a part of their lives, and they will become your friends for life. Food is a major part of Russian culture, and mealtimes prove to be a great time for getting the whole family to engage English conversation.

Your number one priority is to spend quality time with your Russian hosts and to practice English with them for 15 hours per week. Your goal will be to help your hosts gain confidence speaking English with you. Food is a major part of Russian culture, and meal times prove to be a great time for getting the whole family to engage English conversation. Ideally you will also want practice speaking Russian with your hosts in return.

WHERE WILL I LIVE?

CHI works with a trusted overseas partner agency in Voronezh, Russia. This is where most of our placements are located. Voronezh has a population of one million inhabitants and is about 300 miles from Moscow. There are many students attending university in the area, so there are a lot of fun events happening around town. Our partners will welcome you to their office to meet some of their staff and to get you acquainted with the area. Their agency is connected to an English language academy where you may be given the opportunity to teach in a classroom setting in addition to your World Explorers home tutor position. This is really exciting for those who are studying education and need some experience to add to their resume.

Please note that some of our host families also live in smaller towns throughout Russia. We will do our best to satisfy your needs when searching for the best match. We ask that you please be flexible with your exact location. It really depends on which families we have available during the time you are looking to travel. Placements may be a bit outside of major city centers like Moscow or St. Petersburg.

WILL I BE ABLE TO LEARN RUSSIAN IN RUSSIA?

World Explorers is an ideal way for you to improve your Russian language skills. Cultural immersion forces you to put yourself out there and try communicating with the locals. DO I NEED A VISA TO STAY IN RUSSIA?

A tourist visa is only valid for 30 days. Humanitarian visas allow you stay for up to 90 days, but you must allow plenty of time to secure this type of visa.

HOW CAN I FILL MY FREE TIME?

World Explores is an independent travel program. You need to be a self-starter to make sure you find things to do in your free while your host parents are at work and your host brothers and sisters are at school. You will have a local coordinator that can give you advice about things to do, but you are ultimately responsible to keep yourself busy. We can give you ideas about how to make friends and get involved with the local community in Russia.

Cost Calculator

We understand that keeping the World Explorers cost down is as important as the life-changing experience you will enjoy. Hence, we prepared a cost calculator which shows the cost of the program (excluding airfare) compared to the cost of a standard vacation. The prices are calculated according to the destination chosen, the arrival and departure dates, and the length of your stay. The length of your stay is an especially important factor: the longer you stay abroad, the cheaper the cost per day becomes.

CHI is a non-profit organization, but we still have fixed costs that are necessary for running the program. Our overseas partners are actually for-profit, and we must take that into consideration as well. Our partners do the work to find and screen excellent host families that match your interests and needs!
