From the melancholic feel of tango to the euphoria of drinking mate, Argentine culture is a passionate mix of Latin American and European roots. Their cuisine is highly influenced by its strong Italian heritage, and it is known for some of the best wine in the world. The bustling capital, Buenos Aires, has been compared to Paris. From the wine country in the north all the way down to Patagonia, Argentina is an extremely interesting country composed of many unique variables.

As a World Explorer in Argentina, you will get to know the country and its people by living with a local host family during a short-term immersion program. Your number one priority is to spend quality time with your Argentinian hosts and to practice English with them for 15 hours per week. Many of our host families in Argentina have younger children and are looking for fun-loving native English speakers to play with them. Your goal will be to help your hosts gain confidence speaking English with you. Ideally, you will also want to practice speaking Spanish with your hosts in return.
CHI works with trusted partners in Buenos Aires to screen and interview potential host families. Buenos Aires is the bustling capital of Argentina. Buenos Aires has been called the Paris of South America. The architecture has a European-feel. There are tons of cute cafes, bars and shops to check out in your free time! As the locals say, “Que barbaro!”

Yes! You will be able to combine your homestay experience with studying Spanish at a private language academy in Buenos Aires. You will be able to take private or group lessons at La Porteñisima. The school also offers a lot of fun activities and excursions where you can meet other international students. These activities range from yoga classes, to bike rides to barbeques!

YOU WILL RECEIVE 5-10 FREE SPANISH CLASSES INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM FEE!

You will have an immediate network of other travelers and locals through the school network. You will be invited to join fun events and cultural activities such as soccer games, language exchanges and parties.
Our partner agency in Argentina prefers one to two month placements with a host family with the possibility to extend to a third month if things go well. Shorter stays by the week may also be possible.
Yes! You are encouraged to travel to other areas of Argentina during your trip. You can check out the glaciers in Patagonia, enjoy wine tasting in Cordoba, ride bikes in Bariloche or explore La Boca (art district) in Buenos Aires. Second in South America only to Brazil in size and population, Argentina is a giant plain, rising from the Atlantic to the Chilean border and the towering Andes peaks. At nearly 23,000 feet, Aconcagua is the highest peak in the world outside of Asia. Argentina is also bordered by Bolivia and Paraguay on the north, and by Uruguay and Brazil on the east.

Past participants have even traveled on to other South American countries after their homestay in Argentina. Buses prove to be the most affordable mode of transportation in South America. We can help recommend safe and affordable travel routes to get the most out of your journey abroad.
Some of the overseas partner agencies we work with place restrictions on age. We recommend this destination for travelers ages 18-30 . Some older candidates may be considered, but we cannot guarantee it.

Experiences abroad

Everything has been nothing less than perfect - Steph and her family are amazing, and I feel extremely at home and well taken care of by them. I also start Spanish classes with her tomorrow and I'm really looking forward! Oh, and I've also tried the mate 🙂 Went for my first milonga, got invited for dances and stepped on many toes. Oh well, I guess there's always a first time. ‪#‎tango‬ ‪#‎argentina
