Home Away From Home in Tennessee

Julie Larsen, from Norway, participated in CHI’s Academic Year Program in Tennessee last year.  Julie had a wonderful experience and was featured in Tennessee magazine, Paris!  The article covers why Julie decided to leave her hometown of 900 people to stay with a host family and attend an American high school.

Julie had an amazing homestay experience and encourages people to travel, especially out of the country.  She also wishes more families would host.  Julie says “There are so many young people who dream of seeing America. The wonderful family who did that for me knew nothing about me, yet they opened their home and more importantly they opened their hearts to me. After a couple of days, I felt like I’d lived there forever. It was a feeling of leaving home, yet coming home. I will forever be grateful for everything that they have done. It’s a beautiful thing when you can do that for somebody.”
