From a European Village, to Film Maker in Small-Town Missouri

In 2013 Thomas Romainville traveled from a small European village in Belgium to southwest Missouri to attend high school through CHI’s Academic Year Program.  He said goodbye to his hometown of just under 700 people and made new friends in Seymour, Missouri.  After a successful school year, Thomas began researching options for higher education in the U.S.

Thomas went on to attend Ozarks Technical Community College and then pursued a digital film production degree at Missouri State University.  Today Thomas is a member of the media, journalism and film department at Missouri State University.

Additionally, Thomas is active in on-campus film productions and is on the executive board for the International Public Affairs Leaders.  Thomas also won best cinematography at the 2017 OTC Film Festival.

When asked about the future, Thomas hopes to continue to make movies and possibly move to Los Angeles or Atlanta to help achieve this dream.  Another option he is considering is to stay local and start his own freelance business.

When greeting international students that arrive at Missouri State University Thomas tells them, “Do as much as you can, try new things, get out of your comfort zone and in the end, you’ll have a fabulous experience here at Missouri State.”
