Chinese Exchange Student Shares Many Talents

It was January 2014, when Chinese exchange student Ziyi Xiong arrived in San Luis Obispo, California and began his high school career at Mission College Prep High School. He is currently participating in CHI’s Private High School Program (PHSP).

Ziyi shared his talent of beatboxing (the art of imitating the sounds of a drum machine and other musical instruments with one’s mouth, lips, tongue, and voice) at our CHI events, the California State Fair (where he won first place in the talent show), and he was televised performing at the Youth Peace Conference in Los Angeles. Ziyi has matured into a wonderful and talented young man. In addition to music, he was on the varsity tennis team, participated in many musicals through the drama department and volunteered for numerous non- profit organizations.

Last year Ziyi performed in his school’s performance of “Mulan”, where he played Fa Zhou, Mulan’s Father. Ziyi is an outstanding student and has already been accepted at Michigan State and a few other universities. He is waiting to hear from a couple more schools before making his decision for his future in the USA. We are proud of Ziyi and are excited to see what lies ahead for him in the USA.
