For over 37 years, CHI has been developing exchange programs. Why? CHI wants businesses, hosting families and young Americans to share their values, their love and their freedom with foreigners. CHI also wants foreigners to share their culture, values, skills and life experiences with Americans. We believe this to be the best way to promote trust and understanding among nations and to build a more prosperous, peaceful world.

CHI is not a profit-making idea. Both founders and the entire staff believe in CHI's mission and vision. Our various strategies, including the myriad of cultural exchange programs offered, have proven to be successful. The numbers speak for themselves!
The history of CHI starts with the story of Tom and Lilka Areton. Tom, CHI's co-founder (with Lilka), arrived in the United States from Czechoslovakia in October 1968. Lilka was born in Brooklyn and raised in Toms River, New Jersey. On November 1st, 1980, Tom and Lilka opened "California Homestay Institute."
CHI is managed by multi-talented and versatile directors and managers. They guide the tone by which all CHI's passionate and caring staff conduct the business. CHI's headquarters is located in San Anselmo, in beautiful Marin County, California. The rest of CHI's family is spread throughout the U.S., where our dedicated staff provides outstanding customer service.
CHI values connectivity and collaboration. Check what is happening in the cultural exchange world.
