Northern California Area Map Greetings from Northern California! We are one of more than 60 CHI territories throughout the U.S. and Canada, encompassing the area from the San Francisco peninsula to the Oregon border, and east to Livermore. Dedicated to the philosophy of spreading world peace through understanding, we have over hundreds of host families yearly who embrace this message by hosting in our many programs.

ACADEMIC YEAR PROGRAM

Area high schools participating in the 2007/2008 Academic Year Program are:

Nidia Morales (center) from Spain, at a dance class
with host sister and friend.

HOST FAMILIES

By volunteering to open your home and heart to the world's young people, you are donating to them an uncommon gift: an offer of friendship, a willingness to share yourself and your way of life and a genuine interest in learning about other cultures and customs. CHI host families are special people of extraordinary good will and generosity of spirit. Most important of all, they are willing to make a difference in their own family, their community, their country and ultimately the world. We support our families and students with counseling and numerous activities throughout the 10 month homestay. If you are interested in more information about hosting please contact Suze Cribbs at chisuze@chinet.org.

GROUP HOMESTAY PROGRAM

Northern California, in its Group Homestay Program, has been welcoming foreign students from China, Germany, Japan, Korea, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, Reunion Island and Vietnam for more than 25 years.

HOST FAMILIES

Host families participating in this program have the unique opportunity of experiencing what it's like to have a foreign student as a member of their family for a short period of time (programs vary from 4 days on up to 6 weeks.) This program runs from 9am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Students participate in English classes in the mornings and cultural activities in the afternoon. You are welcome to join us in the afternoon activities. If you are interested in becoming a Host Family for one of these students, please contact Suze Cribbs at chisuze@chinet.org.
