Your Local Coordinator

Private High School Program

When you have been accepted to the school or your choice, a local CHI Academic Coordinator (AC) will begin the process of selecting a family in your school community to be your host family. Your AC has been trained by CHI and certified by the U.S. Department of State, and will provide you with caring, professional support throughout your stay. She will carefully screen and personally interview families interested in hosting, checking backgrounds and references to find a good match for you. Once you arrive your AC will help you get settled in with your new family and school. She will be there to help you throughout your stay and will support you in your new life.

Your Host Family

When you first arrive, your host family or your CHI coordinator will meet you at the airport and transport you to your host family’s home. Your host family will provide you with a caring family environment in their home. You will learn about American culture and participate in family life. Your family will provide you with a bedroom and a place to study, your meals and the support of a real family. As all American families are busy, you will make your own breakfast and lunch from food that has been provided for you and will share dinner with your family. Or you may choose to buy your own lunches at school. Throughout your stay your host family will care for you and support you as a member of their family. They will want to learn about your culture and will help you be successful in your program.
